Last week, I penned a piece exclusively for the [The Solari Report](https://open.substack.com/users/280946781), exploring the value that poetry brings to society. Here’s a small snippet:

Poetry takes the core themes and ideas that people remember narratives for, and amplifies our ability to embody that truth intuitively, leaning into our nature and helping us identify patterns and see their place within the “whole.” While it’s true that we remember narratives better than individual facts, it is also true that we [remember poetry better](https://science.howstuffworks.com/life/inside-the-mind/how-poetry-affects-human-brain.htm?ref=tom-shaw.uk) than any other written form. It’s perhaps no wonder, then, that some of the oldest surviving artifacts of ancient civilisations—the *Epic of Gilgamesh*, the works of Homer, the epics of central Asia, and the prayers and songs of Native American tribes—are all forms of poetry.

Poetry represents an ultimate mastery of the word, using sensory considerations and structural constraints like any artist does to amplify the impact of its contents. The words of poetry are invitations to find possibilities beyond our immediate reality. Poetry illuminates the memories, emotions, and patterns that influence how we show up in the world. Poetry then provides an opportunity to transmute the individual circumstances of its creation—and its creator—into something more profound. Poetry speaks to the broader trend of our life story, and shows us areas where we can choose to change for the better.

I’m excited to announce that I will be penning pieces monthly for Solari, exploring poets and poems of the past and the lessons we can learn from them in navigating the current social climate and in building a “free and inspired life”.

I invite you to read the article for free over at Solari, and I recommend subscribing in order to access the full range of material they provide, as well as the future pieces I’ll be penning there.

I will be sure to update you here, too, when future pieces go live.

In the meantime, you can catch me as both MC and a speaker at Liberpulco 2026, happening in just a few days time. There’s still time to grab tickets for the livestream - or better yet, in-person, if you fancy a last-minute getaway. You can still use my code MASTERYOURWORD for 10% off any ticket type:

Thank you for making the time to read my words, and I look forward to bringing you more soon.

With gratitude,

Tom
